Monday’s Featured Character

Good Early Evening on this Monday!

My how quickly this day disappeared. It had been an extremely busy day with many chores and tasks to accomplish, and now I am tired and ready for my day to end. However, I am happy to have my busy day filled with the usual activities of my life, as my heart goes out to those who are currently struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. May those who are enduring this disaster find resolution and peace. I send you love and healing energies!

Now onto the topic of the day: Signs of Love and Deliverance’s featured character!

Aaron Farrington, the Marquess of Brumley

Aaron Farrington is one of the bad guys in Signs of Love and Deliverance. He is a true villain and kind of creepy. He is a powerful and mean Lord. He despises the Cathcarts and anyone who allies with them. He has no compunction using the people in his life for his evil activities, and it is not beneath him to commit any crime that suits his devious deeds.

The following is a small excerpt describing Aaron Farrington.

He was a nondescript man in his late forties, with thinning, brown hair, brown eyes, medium height, not fat, not thin; there was nothing distinguishing about the man except for his mouth. He had a perpetual sneer, and with a curl of his upper lip, his sneer turned evil. He had an aura about him that caused a body to shiver, wishing he or she could be anywhere but in his presence.

Farrington ran his household and his businesses with a tight fist. He cared for no one but himself, his pleasures, and his money. He was intelligent, powerful, wealthy, and dangerous. Some respected him, some feared him, some hated him, and those who knew him, avoided him.

I hope you enjoyed my featured character today and it encourages you to go read Signs of Love and Deliverance and find out how cruel Farrington truly is. Below is a link for the kindle version of Signs but you can also purchase it in a paper version.

Have a lovely rest of your Monday and keep on reading!

Friday’s Excerpt!

Happy Friday!

I hope everyone has had a good week and are looking forward to the weekend.  I have had a busy week and spent last night with some good friends celebrating one of their birthdays with good food and a funny movie.  I made my friend a chocolate cake with peanut butter icing and she compared it to a fluffy Reese’s peanut butter cup.  I consider that a compliment.  The movie of choice was Clue, which was made in the late 1980’s and is quite funny. It was a lovely evening with good friends, good food, good entertainment and good conversation. Can’t get much better than that. This weekend, my husband wants to take me out to see a movie we have been wanting to see before it leaves the theater, so I am looking forward to that because that means a date night, woo hoo! For the remainder of the weekend, I think it will be a relaxing one with some reading and maybe a little writing. All good stuff!

Now onto the next excerpt for Signs of Love and Deliverance. On Monday, I featured Nicholas Cathcart and the week before I featured Joselyn Parker so I thought it only fitting to share a bit more of their encounters. The sparks fly between these two.

“Where do you think you are going?” Nicholas asked for the second time and he was losing his patience. The ladies were in the wrong. Not only did they disobey Brandon, but they put themselves at risk. Surely, Joselyn understood that.

“Out.” She tilted up her chin in defiance. She did not have to do what this man told her to do. She was not a member of this family.

“I take it, then, you want a spanking,” Nicholas threatened, seriously considering it. He had had enough and was at the end of his patience.

“No, which is why I am leaving before Lord Kenrik decides to give me one for some unknown reason,” she sneered at him, and again, headed for the door.

“If you leave this house, you won’t need to worry about Brandon turning you over his knee.” He paused, watching her take another step towards the door. “Because I will do it first, right now.” He grabbed her wrist and pulled her up against him. “You don’t want me spanking you, Joselyn. I promise, you won’t like it one bit.” He watched her intently for a moment before adding with a wicked grin, “Or perhaps you would.”

I hope this little snippet entices you enough to want to go read some more. If it does, hop on over to amazon and pick up your copy of Signs of Love and Deliverance.  The link is below for your convenience.

Until next week when I will feature another great character, enjoy your weekend, do something fun and keep on reading!

Good Afternoon!

I hope this Wednesday has been a good one for everyone. My week seems to be going by very quickly with very little time for writing.  I need to get to writing soon as I have had several people ask me when the sequel to Signs of Love and Deliverance will be out. This is all very surprising to me and I have only just published Signs and the paper version isn’t even available on all of Amazon’s sites nor have I done much marketing yet.  Anyway, for those of you waiting on the sequel, you will have to wait for a bit.  I do have the story started but I have no idea where it is headed, or when it is going to be finished. The only thing I do know is that it will be Raven and Gretchen’s story and I will be revisiting many of the other characters as well. At this time, that is all I can give you.

Wednesday’s Featured Author

As I’m sure you have guessed, reading is one of my favorite things to do.  I love a good story, particularly ones with lots of adventure, action and alpha males. Today’s featured author certainly delivers on all three! Anna Hackett knows how to create stories filled with plenty of action, great fighting scenes, sassy ladies and sexy men.

Over the last few months I have been reading a couple of Anna Hackett’s series: “Hell Squad” and “Galactic Gladiators”.

“Hell Squad” is a series that takes place in Sydney, Australia after an alien invasion by lizard/dinosaur like creatures that assimilate humans into a form like them. A small military group of humans fight against them to survive and in the hopes of destroying them. While fighting these aliens, the humans find love and romance.  The first in this fast paced romance action adventure is “Marcus”.  This series is available free in kindle unlimited and for purchase under $5. I am currently reading “Roth” which is the 5th book in this series.  There are so far 13 books in this series so I have a bit to go before I catch up, but I’ll eventually get there.

“Galactic Gladiators” begins with the story Gladiator. In this story an Earth Space Station is attacked by aliens, the Thraxians. The Thraxians kidnap people to sell into slavery.  One of which happens to be Harper Adams, a space marine. Harper is taken to a planet in the galaxy’s outer rim, and she is sold to the House of Galen in the Kor Magna Arena. The Arena is made up of various houses of Gladiators who fight one another for the amusement of the planet’s citizens. Most of the Gladiators are fighting for their freedom. House of Galen’s star gladiator is Raiden Tiago and he helps Harper adapt to her new life. The House of Galen goes on to assist Harper in finding her friends and coworkers from the space station, fighting to free them and fighting the Thraxians. In subsequent stories in this series, more of the people stolen from the space station are found and their stories revealed. I really liked this series!  It has sweet love stories, great fighting and adventurous story lines. This series is also free with kindle unlimited and the kindle books each under $5 for purchase. I have recently finished “Barbarian” book 6 of this series and I’m waiting for the next one to come out.

Although I have yet to read them, Anna Hackett has two other series: the Phoenix Adventures and Treasure Hunter Security. Go check out Anna Hackett’s great adventures. I promise you won’t regret it.

If you have an author you want me to read, let me know and I’ll be happy to read his/her stories. Maybe you see one of your favorites featured on my blog.

Have a great rest of your week and keep on reading.

Monday’s Featured Character!

Good Afternoon!

I hope the  week is starting out to be a good one for everyone. Mine began with having a breakfast with some good friends to celebrate a birthday.  It is always great to mark those special occasions with friends. These occasions are what makes life worth living.  We need to celebrate when we can for the little events as well as the large events in our lives.

Onward to Signs of Love and Deliverance’s featured character.  Oh, who to pick, who to pick. There are so many options.  Hmm, how about Nicholas Cathcart? Now, there is a heart throb for you. Nicholas Cathcart, the Earl of Kylington, Madeline Cathcart’s brother and Brandon Cathcart’s half-brother, is tall, handsome with light blue eyes and sandy blond hair streaked with golden highlights. He is dominating, confident and a bit of a womanizer.  He enjoys spending time at his club, dabbling in horse racing and raising a little hell now and again.  On occasion he is impulsive, but he loves his family and is very protective of them. Here is a little excerpt between Nicholas and Joselyn to highlight how alpha Nicholas can be.

“And where do you think you are going?”

“Lord Nicholas.” She turned to face him and lied. “I was going out for a walk.”

“Didn’t Brandon forbid you to leave this house less than an hour ago?” Nicholas was quite aware of what happened earlier that day and Joselyn’s part in it. He was aggravated that Joselyn was not taking the danger to herself, and now to his sisters, seriously. Brandon had informed him of the women’s misadventure and his confining them to their bedrooms. He was not amused that Joselyn was again disobeying his brother. He wasn’t going to allow it.

Joselyn glared at him, tapping her foot in annoyance at being caught. “Yes, but I find no reason why I should obey him. I don’t belong to him.”

“As long as you are under his protection and mine, you will obey us,” he stated firmly.

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about one of Signs’ characters.  Head on over to Amazon and pick up a copy if you wish to read more about Nicholas Cathcart. The links below are for amazon.com and amazon.ca. The paperback version is now out on amazon.com and should become available on amazon.ca in the coming weeks. It is also available in kindle and free for those who have kindle unlimited.

Everyone have a fantastic week and keep on reading!

Friday’s News and Featured Author!

Good Afternoon!

It’s finally available! The paper version of Signs of Love and Deliverance is now available on Amazon.com. It has not linked to the kindle version’s page of yet, but I’m told that takes several days, even weeks for it to do that, so be aware of that when looking for the paper version that you choose the correct link. It has yet to be available at the amazon.ca or other Amazon sites, but should be on those sites within the next couple of weeks or so.  I’ll be sure to let you know when it becomes available on those sites. So, for those of you from the U.S. or those who can’t wait and want the paper copy of Signs now, head on over to amazon.com (link below) and grab your copy.  The book is a beautiful, large paperback with 545 pages of reading deliciousness, no small paperback here; you’re going to need your big purse for this one. The cost is $16.00 U.S. and worth every penny, or at least, I think it is.  For those of you who still need to wait, I will post another excerpt from Signs sometime next week, perhaps on Monday. In the meantime, take a look at some earlier blogs and read the excerpts there, or hey, even better, go pick up a kindle copy of my book (link below).

Another great piece of news, which is family related not book related, is that my step-son returned home from his Sea Cadet Camp. He was at Blackdown in Borden, Ontario, an army base. I am so proud of him! He passed his Sports and Fitness Instructor Course with a high recommendation. He now has two instructor courses under his belt and hopes that next summer he will be either a Sports and Fitness Instructor or a Drill and Ceremonial Instructor.  Yes, he is seriously thinking of joining the Navy. And this mom bites her nails in apprehension while being very proud of her son’s accomplishments.  Yes, yes, I know.  I referred to him as my step-son earlier and he is; however, I have raised him since he was four with his bio mom rarely in the picture, so he is more my son than a step-son. His Dad and I couldn’t be more proud of how upstanding, good and kind hearted he turned out to be. We couldn’t have asked for a better kid.  I am so fortunate to have him in my life.

Featured Author!

So, a few weeks ago, I mentioned I would feature an author or a book on my blog on Wednesdays. Well, this week has been a bit busy, trying to get things back to normal and I simply didn’t have the time. However, I will happily do it now.

My Featured Author is:  Ruby Dixon

She has several series out, two of which I have been reading.  The book I am currently reading is Fire in His Kiss: A Post-Apocalyptic Dragon Romance from the Fireblood Dragons series.  This is the second book in the series.  The first book is Fire In His Blood.  This series is about dragon shifters and their human mates. Several years ago, there was a rift in the sky that caused the dragons to come through, perhaps a rift in dimensions – this has yet to be revealed.  The dragons are mad with no memories of their former lives, just the burning desire to destroy and their primary targets are humans. Once they claim a mate, the madness recedes and they are able to think more clearly and shift to their human-like form. The humans live in hives ruled by the military. Life is very hard with food and shelter being scarce and dragons attacking them. Women without a male protector, struggle to survive and many are forced to sell themselves for food and other items. In the first book, Claudia goes to scavenge outside the hive in the old city of Dallas. This is illegal for her to do but she is desperate for food to feed herself, her sister and her friend, Sasha. Claudia is caught and the mayor along with the military set her up as bait for a dragon. This leads her to meet Kael, a golden dragon, and . . . she becomes his mate. One thing leads to another and you will have to read the rest yourself.  In the second book, Dakh snatches Sasha from the sky when she is falling from Kael’s back (read book 1). She turns out to be his mate and chases the ravens in his mind away.  This is a fun read with steamy dragon-shifter love scenes and a fair share of adventure.  A good summer read.

If dragon-shifters don’t do it for you, perhaps blue aliens will. I highly recommend Ice Plant Barbarians.  This is such a fun series with really great characters.  I read this series a couple of months ago and just couldn’t put it down.  I read most of the books and even the short stories. I think I still have the two most recent ones yet to read.  In this series, women with little or no relatives were kidnapped from earth by slave-trading aliens. They crash land on an ice planet and the women were able to escape/kill their captors. The ice planet is inhabited by blue aliens, predominately male. Through the course of the series the earth women hook up with the blue aliens and have many adventures and sweet romances. I don’t want to go into more detail as there are quite a few novels in this series, but I can’t stress how much I liked it.  It really was enjoyable and I got so caught up in this series. Bravo, Ruby for creating such a great world to get lost in. If I wasn’t already married, I would be looking for my own blue barbarian. So yummy!

The great thing about Ruby Dixon’s novels for readers is that she does have them on kindle unlimited for those who pay for that and if you like to buy your kindle books most of them are around $5.00 and I think the first one in the series is around a $1.00.  Go take a look at her books and do some weekend reading.  I know I will!

And if Ruby Dixon doesn’t catch your interest, you can always go read a bit of my book. Amazon will let you download a sample of my book and you will get to read into Chapter 3. The links are below for your convenience.

Until next time, have a great weekend and keep on reading!

Grief and Monday’s Featured Character

Good Afternoon!

Monday is halfway over! Yeah! for those of you who don’t like Mondays.  For me, today was a day of going through some of the things of my Mom’s I brought home. Mostly clothes and some of her ceramics.  My mother use to teach ceramics when I was growing up and later she did it for herself to give as gifts and to various charities for fund raisers. The last several years she rarely had the energy to work on her craft, and since I’m the only daughter who has an interest in her hobby, I am, little by little, bringing her unfinished work home and completing them, then taking them back to my Dad so he can give them to the people she intended the pieces to go to. It will be difficult for me to do and I’m nowhere near as good as my mother at painting, but it will be a labor of love. So, I will give it a go.

Grief is a slippery thing! One moment, I am going along with my daily routine, and the next, I’m stricken with great loss. Yesterday, Sunday, was my usual day to phone my parents, but I found it very difficult to do. My usual phone call would have started with my Dad answering the phone with a short conversation of about 5 to 10 minutes and with him asking me if I wanted to talk to Mom and me saying “Yeah, sure” and then spending an hour or two talking to my Mom. Yesterday, Mom wasn’t there. I talked to my Dad for about 20 minutes trying to help him with his debilitating grief instead. A new way of being. We all know that time will make it easier, but the pain of the loss will never leave us. We simply learn how to cope. We haven’t quite gotten there yet. And as always for me, writing helps.

So, enough of my personal drama and onto Signs of Love and Deliverance!

A few weeks ago, I promised to feature a character from Signs on Mondays. Today’s feature is Joselyn Parker. Oh, how we love and hate Joselyn.  She is a bit extreme and I’m sure you may find some relatable qualities in this character, if not for yourself then in someone you may know. Joselyn was given a tragic life from the get go and struggles to find herself. Joselyn is the catalyst of Signs’ murder mystery, being the subject of a killer’s obsession. She seeks her friend’s, Madeline, help to find her brother’s killer, and it puts her on a path to new love and secrets revealed.  The following is a little excerpt where Joselyn explains to Nicholas, Madeline, and Brandon that she believes her brother was murdered.

“Please sit down, Joselyn.” Nicholas gestured towards the couch and sat beside her, taking her hands in his when she began picking at her gown again. “Joselyn, Maddy has told us about your situation, but we would like to hear it from you, if you don’t mind.”

“I suppose I should start with why I think it is Aaron Farrington, Lord Brumley, who killed my brother.” Joselyn peered at him shyly, wishing he hadn’t become so familiar by dropping her title and holding her hands. He made her feel vulnerable and she didn’t appreciate it. She glanced away to focus on Madeline and took a deep breath before going on. “My brother was on a hunting trip with some of his friends. He is an expert hunter. He was careful, and he always took care of all his guns so they were in perfect condition. His friend Roger Cummings, Viscount of Dunley, before he died, had said there was no way it was an accident.”

Joselyn stopped to catch her breath and quickly glanced at Nicholas’ then looked back at Madeline before continuing. “Two days ago, we received a note which said: ‘First the brother, next the sister. Comply or she will die,’ and it was signed A. Farrington. At first, I thought maybe someone was playing a cruel joke, but now, I don’t think so.”

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about Joselyn, one of Signs’ many characters. She is a prominent character in this story, and without her, there would be no murder mystery. If you want to learn more, go pick up your kindle copy on Amazon, link below, or wait until later this week when the paper copy should be available. I’ll be sure to let you know when it is.

Until then, keep on reading!

Return to Ontario

Good Afternoon!

I am finally home after spending 10 days in Pennsylvania helping my family with the loss of my Mother. Her loss will be felt for a very long time, particularly for my Father. They had been married for 57 years and they did everything together. Although I wish I could have stayed longer, life moves on whether we are ready for it or not. However, I will return for a visit in a few months so that is some consolation.

For my Mother’s funeral, I was asked to give a eulogy which was one of the hardest things I ever had to write and then recite. Luckily, I was able to get through it without falling apart in front of a crowd of family and friends, many of which I knew and many of which I didn’t. My Mother was very popular and made many friends. During the eulogy I gave, I shared a poem I had written several years ago during a time when there had been many losses of family and friends. I had shared this poem with my Mother at the time and she had liked it very much. So, I read it after my eulogy and I will share it here now in honor of my beautiful Mother.

Think Of Me

Think of me
As the morning sun rises above the mountain in the horizon,
And glistens upon the lake’s gentle water,
With the faint scent of the first flowers of spring filling the air around you.

Think of me
As the ocean breaks into waves upon the sand beneath your feet,
The song of the bird in flight in the summer sky,
And as a cool breeze kisses your cheek.

Think of me
As the evening dew in the grass upon the earth,
The rustle of the wind in the trees’ multi-colored leaves,
And the flame in the autumn sun upon its setting.

Think of me
When the first snowflake silently touches your lips,
The stars shine brightly in the cold, clear midnight sky,
And a blanket of snow shimmers upon the winter ground.

Think of me
as my spirit soars and begins anew.

Amongst all the sadness, there is some good news to report. Signs of Love and Deliverance has received another 5 star review – woohoo! That makes me happy. I really wasn’t expecting it. Also, I received the proof of the paper version of the novel while I was away and have approved it yesterday. So, the paper version will be out sometime next week for those of you who are not fond of ebooks and/or want a hard copy of Signs. I know there are many who have been waiting patiently, and some not so patiently, for it to come out. I will announce when it is available for purchase so keep an eye out here or on my facebook page.

Until then, I leave you with another excerpt of Signs to tantalize you. This one is part of a scene between Madeline and Damon.

Madeline was done waiting and done holding back her feelings. She wanted Damon. His body against hers felt right. His arms around her made her feel safe and his kisses made her feel desirable. All the nights he had held her while she slept only fueled the fire. She didn’t want to wait another moment, a moment that may never come again. “I want you to make love to me, Damon.”

He gazed at her intently, catching her green eyes with his amber ones. “Madeline.” He groaned deep in his throat. Once he started, he wasn’t going to be able to stop. She didn’t know what she was asking of him.

“I want you, Damon, please,” Madeline pleaded, holding his gaze. She wanted him to kiss her again and she wanted more than a kiss. She didn’t know exactly what she wanted, but she wanted him.

Unable to resist her, Damon kissed her deeply for a long moment. He broke off the kiss and grasped her chin. “Are you sure? Once we do this, there is no going back.”
She nodded, staring into his passion filled, amber eyes. She could drown in those seductive eyes.

I hope you enjoyed that little excerpt. If that caught you interest, you will have to read the book to find out what happens next.

Until next time, have a great weekend and read on!

Family Loss

Hello Everyone,

It is with a sad heart that I write this.  On Sunday morning I received the news that my mother had passed away in her sleep. She was a beautiful soul and much loved by her family and friends. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist. She was the organist and choir director of her church for many years. She was very talented in many ways, and she loved to create beautiful ceramic pieces as well as crocheting, and making other crafts. She enjoyed going to the beach at Cape May, NJ, one of her favorite places to visit, and traveling. She was gregarious and had the gift of making friends and striking up conversation with anyone she met.  She was a very special woman and she will be missed by many.

As the week progresses, our hearts are heavy as we plan for her funeral services on Saturday. As I’m sure you understand, I will not be posting for the remainder of the week. Until next week, keep reading and take a look at older posts if you wish to read a bit of Signs of Love and Deliverance.

Friday’s Excerpt!

Good Morning Reader Friends!

I hope you have had a good week of productivity or vacation bliss! I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the weekend. I know I am. My husband and I are celebrating our 13th anniversary this evening by going out to a movie and dinner and the rest of the weekend will be spent doing a few chores around the house, relaxing and perhaps a walk down by the lake – I’m lucky, I live in a beautiful town on Lake Ontario and the beach is a short drive from my house. Always nice to take the time to celebrate and appreciate the good things in life.

So, I promised everyone an excerpt from my romance novel Signs of Love and Deliverance. In this excerpt, I feature the beautiful and vivacious Madeline Cathcart. She is not only beautiful, but she is smart, classy, and favored among her peers. She is fiercely loyal to her brothers, sister and her friends, and she will do whatever needs to be done to help them. She does have her insecurities and her quirks, but I promise, you will love this character. In this excerpt, Madeline meets the intimidating and scary Lord Brumley while at the theatre with her family and friends:

Madeline sighed again, trying to ignore the odd sensation of being observed. She did not know how she was going to ever live through the second half of the exceedingly wearisome play. Madeline turned to where Stephen had been standing moments ago to ask him if he would trade chairs with her, but neither he nor Nicholas were in sight. As she scanned the room for her brothers, her eyes met an older man’s and he leered wickedly at her. A tremor of trepidation ran through her body, making her feel faint. The man was evil. She could feel it deep in her soul. Shocked and too terrified to move or call out, she watched the nondescript man with a sneer for a smile walk towards her. When he stopped in front of her, he took her limp hand and kissed her palm. “My dear, Lady Madeline. It is a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance. I am Aaron Farrington, Marquess of Brumley. I know your brother well.”

Stunned, Madeline stammered a greeting. “L . . . Lord B . . . Brumley.”

“I have heard of your and your friend’s trouble,” he began, indicating Joselyn, who was standing between Marshall and Henry, preoccupied with Lady Stanton who was regaling Joselyn with her endless ailments. “Should you not be safe and sound at home, out of danger’s way?” Farrington questioned with a smirk and gave her hand a squeeze before dropping it.

Recovered from her initial shock and feeling safe in such a crowded room, Madeline ignored his question and bravely accused him. “You have been sending some cruel notes to Lady Joselyn, Lord Brumley, and I do believe it is in poor taste.”

“I have sent no notes, Lady Madeline,” Farrington denied. “If I have something to say, threat or otherwise, I say it in person. By the by, where is Lord Kenrik? I would have thought your brother would be overseeing such a family outing.”

“My family is none of your concern, Lord Brumley,” Madeline told him haughtily.

“Ah, but it is, my dear. Anything the Cathcarts do is of interest to me.” He raised his hand and brushed a stray hair off Madeline’s brow, trailing a finger down the side of her face. When she didn’t flinch at his touch, he smirked, “You should take more care, my dear. Talking with strangers could be the death of you.”

Madeline watched in paralyzed silence as Farrington walked away. She quickly leaned against the nearby wall before she fell. Her knees felt weak and she could not seem to be able to breathe. She was sure that horrid man had threatened her life and she was not quite sure how to respond.

I hope you like this excerpt! Lord Brumley is pretty scary. I know I wouldn’t want to be cornered by him as Madeline was. He gives me the shivers. If you are interested in reading more, Signs is now live on Amazon for downloading onto your kindle or other reader device. If you are looking for the paper version, it should be out next month sometime. I’ll let you know when it is.

In the meantime, come on back to my website blog and whet your appetite with excerpts I will be posting on Fridays. On Mondays, I’ll feature one of the characters to tantalize you. Stop on by on Wednesdays to find out a bit more of what I’m about, what I’m up to, what I’m working on, or to check out what I like to read as I feature a book or series I have read or am reading. All good stuff, I promise.

Have a fabulous weekend and keep on reading!

First Review!

I’m so excited! I received my first review for my romance novel Signs of Love and Deliverance! The reader gave me 5 stars and wants me to hurry up and write the sequel.  Yes, I am working on the sequel, but it will take a while.

I’m also excited that I have actually sold the book and that people are reading it. Ok, so I didn’t sell that many, yet, but a few is better than none and more than I expected.  When I set out to write this story many years ago, I never expected to get it published, let alone for anyone to read it other than myself. So for me, this is a big deal.

I have always loved writing. I dreamed of being a writer since I was 12 and read my first teen romance novel by Beverly Cleary. I have always made up stories for as long as I can remember, mostly about the dolls I played with, big Barbie fan, and the make believe I played with real and imaginary friends. So when I started reading romance stories, I was hooked. Before that, I read things like Little House on the Prairie and Ann of Green Gables and Black Beauty, etc.  All good books, but they didn’t inspire me or catch my interest as writers like Beverly Cleary and Judy Bloom did. With them and writers like them, I found my love of reading and I was hooked.

So, what has that got to do with anything, well that led me to writing snippets of this story and that story, an idea here, an idea there. I was always scribbling down phrases and names and ideas. And my mind just doesn’t turn it off, ever. I wake up in the morning thinking of stories, I drink my coffee while thinking of stories, I shower while thinking of stories, I work while thinking of stories, I play while thinking of stories, I watch T.V. and think of stories, I go to sleep thinking of stories, and even dream of the stories I’m thinking of.  I believe most story tellers can relate.

Needless to say, Signs has been a long time coming.  I started creating the characters for this story when I was about 18 years old. When I had bits of time, I would jot down my ideas.  There was never that much time as I had other goals to accomplish, school, and work and paying the bills etc. Writing a novel was just a dream, and those that I shared that dream with, always referred to it as my hobby. But something incredible happened 13 years ago, I got married, moved to Canada, and found myself without a job because of immigration laws that caused me to wait for three years before being employed. I had a lot of time on my hands, so I did what I do to fill up time, I create stories.  So while learning to be an instant mom to my stepson, not something I expected (long story there) and learning to be a wife, I worked on my stories – little by little, this story and that story. I have about half a dozen stories half written. I have a hard time settling on just one to work on. Typical Libra. Then I got a job, and again, focused my energies elsewhere to something more realistic.  Yeah, not so much.

I was laid off from my job, and again, left with a lot time on my hands. I decided to finish Signs.  It was time. Within a year, it was finished.  And I put it aside. I don’t have the money to spend on publishing it, on a hobby, something so frivolous as my dream. (That’s what I told myself.) That same year, I also became a member of the Canadian Reiki Association, became a Crystal Therapist and an Akashic Records Consultant. And opened my business. Yup, I spent money on that, a lot of money. It has had small successes. I love my healing practice and don’t regret the time and energy spent in learning and practicing the different modalities. I loved the time writing about it the most.  That’s right, back to writing. Everything leads me back to writing.

Two years ago, I found I was really not happy. I was stuck and I couldn’t say why I was unhappy. So, I went on a quest to have a year of fun.  And I did.  I started having a girls’ movie night with a few of my friends once a month.  I dragged my husband here and there every weekend, cooked and baked up new recipes (another favorite thing I like to do), and I even started a new hobby of painting ceramics (something my mother taught me when I was a kid). I did a lot of soul searching.

Last fall, I turned 49, ugh! And I hadn’t accomplished my biggest dream yet: publishing a book. I was talking about it with a friend, not a close friend, but still a friend, and she said, “Just do it already. What’s holding you back? Let it go and see what happens.”  I gave that a lot of thought.  I brought Signs back out of hiding and started reading it and editing and editing and editing.  I talked to my husband about it a lot. Then we agreed: let’s do it. Put it out there and see what happens.

It’s out here! And I have sold a few copies and someone has reviewed it. And I think I’m still a little in shock. I’m excited and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Of course, the paper version has to come out which hopefully will be in a few weeks if all goes well. I’m stumbling around the marketing part of this.  I really don’t know how to do it and I don’t have the extra funds to buy adds etc., so I have to rely on the freebies and the few things I can afford, such as this website.  So, in the dark I go, trying to figure this publishing and marketing thing out, while writing the next story in the Deliverance Series.

The next book in the series will be Raven and Gretchen’s story. I don’t know how it will play out, but it should be interesting with a lot of drama and mayhem, with some sexy scenes thrown in there.

So, why did I tell you all of this.  I thought perhaps my readers would like to know a little more about me and how Signs came to be published.  Give you a little peak into my life. On the most part, I consider myself a confident woman.  I’ve accomplished most of the things I have set out to do. Sometimes I have success and sometimes I don’t. Why I didn’t have confidence in my writing, I can’t really say. Perhaps it was that voice that we all have that says: you’re not good enough, don’t risk it, do what’s safe, do what you know, don’t cause waves. Well, screw it! I’m causing waves! And I’m just getting started!

You all have a great day and follow those dreams.  You might be surprised at what it brings you!

P.S. Another excerpt from Signs will be posted on Friday! Make sure you come take a gander.
